About CBS Rwanda

The history of Rwanda has been marked by politically motivated ethnic discrimination and repression which repeatedly escalated into episodes of mass killings and eventually led to a well-orchestrated genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

The genocide claimed the lives of more than one million people while its execution was marked by an unprecedented high level of civilian involvement. In addition to the massive deaths, countless orphans, widows, and severely traumatized individuals were left behind.

To respond to these long-lasting consequences, the Government of Rwanda and humanitarian organizations introduced various initiatives to support psychosocial healing, reconciliation, and resilience at individual, family, and community levels.
