The Anglican Church of Byumba was the first institution to implement community-based sociotherapy in 2005. The organization has co-created the approach in partnership with the Dutch sociotherapist, Cora Dekker. The social change experienced after starting the implementation of sociotherapy implementation is one of the reasons that led to the creation of the CBSP consortium. Since 2016, EAR Byumba Diocese is a close partner with CBS Rwanda in implementing the approach in the Northern Province, including Gicumbi, Rulindo and Burera districts and Gicumbi prison.
